A Note from Tinker Tin

Throw a rock in still water and watch what happens. Not a splash, a language. Scatter sand on a vibrating plate and it arranges itself into rings, every time. It is wild!

The moon pulls the tide in a circle, and it’s been doing this for roughly four billion years.

The sun rises, arcs, sets, rises again, a day is actually a wheel, not a line.

A nautilus shell spirals outward in the same ratio as a hurricane, a galaxy, and the print of your own fingerprint.

Circles!

Your pupil is a circle deciding how much light to let in, and your own cells organized themselves radially before you had a name.

Yin and yang. A wedding ring. A porthole window, framing the world outside into one round thought. The gift of friendship, is a circle too – one of our favorites!

This is the middle of summer, the long exhale. A good time to slow down enough to notice a circle, like really notice one, and feel how it connects to everything around us! That’s what we’re chasing this month at Tinker Tin. As designers and builders, we spend our days translating ideas into physical form. This month has been a reminder that some of the greatest inspiration doesn’t come from chasing something new. Maybe that’s the gift of midsummer. The invitation to exhale. To see how the smallest details are often connected to the biggest ideas. To remember that everything, from nature to design to the people we love, is quietly moving in circles.

We’re glad you’re part of ours.

A Dose of Inspiration

What we’re loving right now: circular forms in architecture, nature, and everyday life. Porthole windows, moon phases, spotted horses, water ripples, and more.

On Repeat + Currently Reading

This month’s playlist is called Song Circles, quirky little rhythms that have been keeping our wheels spinning. Currently reading: Carlo Scarpa – Architecture and Design. Carlo Scarpa was an iconic architect whose works were inspired by materials, the land, Japanese architecture and more. We’re inspired by a lot of the same things at Tinker Tin, and it’s why Carlo is such a big inspiration for us!
