From Scrap to Showstopper: Behind the Tinker Tin In-House Line

Discover the inspiration behind Tinker Tin’s upcoming In-House Line made from repurposed materials. Designed for style, built for efficiency.

At Tinker Tin, we’ve always believed beauty isn’t just in the finished product. It’s in the process, the craftsmanship, and even in the pieces most people would throw away. For years, our workshop floors have been scattered with leftover wood and metal offcuts that, to us, never looked like waste. They looked like potential.

That spark of possibility, paired with our obsession for precision and our love for design, has led to something new: the Tinker Tin In-House Line. It’s a collection born from the same principles that shape all of our custom work (Lean Manufacturing, 7S discipline, and the Kaizen philosophy of continuous improvement), but with a twist. These designs are ready to go and infused with sustainability from the ground up.

Why an In-House Line?

The inspiration for our in-house line came from two places.

First, there’s our obsession with efficiency and reducing waste. At Tinker Tin, Lean Manufacturing and 7S aren’t just processes, they’re the backbone of how we create. Guided by Kaizen, we’re always finding ways to make the most of every resource. Instead of discarding cut-off materials, we wanted to transform them into furniture made from scrap materials — unique, functional, and built to last.

The second reason came from listening to our customers. Many small retailers and mom-and-pop shops reached out wanting just a few SKUs, but our custom design process requires higher order minimums. Turning away these projects didn’t sit right with us.
The In-House Line solves both challenges: repurposing our leftover materials while offering small batch retail display furniture for independent stores.

Inspired by nature

Our muse has always been the great outdoors. Every piece draws on the clean lines and harmony of National Park architecture, the elegance of Japanese design, and the tactile appeal of thoughtful textures. Function is woven into the design so each product feels intentional, timeless, and ready to fit seamlessly into any space.

founder favorite

While we’re not revealing the full collection yet, Jaime has a soft spot for a couple of standouts.

“Our chairs are really cool and I can picture sitting, reading, drawing, and daydreaming out of them,” she says.

But the real star for her is smaller in size: “My favorite is a little apothecary cabinet. I have tons of loose leaf teas, tinctures, supplements, herbs, and natural remedies… and all of those items tend to get lost in normal cupboards. I wanted a place where I could keep and see everything. The apothecary cabinet is like my little herbal temple.”

This apothecary cabinet works beautifully as both retail storage and home organization — a great example of how small-scale eco-friendly store displays can be just as impactful as larger fixtures.

We Can't Wait to Show you!

The In-House Line isn’t just about expanding our offerings. It’s about rethinking how retail fixtures are made. It’s about turning scrap into statement pieces, making high-quality sustainable store fixtures available to small businesses, and designing products that can move seamlessly from a Main Street boutique to a national trade show floor.

It’s proof that sustainability, efficiency, and exceptional design aren’t mutually exclusive — they can be built into every shelf, chair, or cabinet we make.
